Also - Larks and Robin's! Makes me think you were at a Contradance that is the ones attended by a college friend who has mentioned this on fb. Funny small world.
Your musings have been read and enjoyed by me for sometime. Anyone that can get me to laugh out loud is a good writer. ‘Especially liked the part about learning from your elders…if only my four children and ten grandchildren felt that way. Keep on blogging. ✌️
I just loved every second of this, and I get more proud of your writing (as if I have anything to do with it, but, y’know, like someone who watches a beloved from afar gets all teary) each time I read it. <3 Also super honored to be considered in the great migration. We four have managed to communicate from paper note-passing to landline spamming to MySpace to texting to socials — with plenty of snailage in between. What’s another evolution to us? xoxo, Nikki
Right?? If no one has already written about the passing/folding of notes, development of coded language, and use of notebooks shared among a social group as proof that adolescent girls are communication scientists and should lead in designing the way we build networks in the future...someone should. I'm glad to have been with you through all the changing modes. <3
Such a lovely read, Taylor. It's got me thinking, reflecting, wanting to use IG (while I'm still there, anyway) to stir more dialogue with fellow chronic uninstaller/re-installer types, in hopes of inciting and swapping stories about the times we've pulled ourselves out of the wretched scroll cycle, what our motivations were for doing so, what that period of respite afforded us, and why we ever came back.
In contrast, I was on a zoom call for a class called Being In Your Power led by a feminist content creator I follow on IG, and when we came back from break someone asked in the chat if we'd seen the news, and no we mostly hadn't, what news? Biden dropped out? so the next 20 minutes of the class were about 25 women from wherever all reacting in real time.

COMMUNICATION SCIENTISTS. I love this. That someone should be you!

I'm shocked that could be contained to only 20 minutes! I was glad that the two women in the chat where I learned the news were also relieved.
